Meet Allysa – Leukemia Warrior
"We want to say thank you, NCCS, for all the help on our journey to recovery!" –Elizabeth, Allysa's mother
Allysa was only four years old when she was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia in July of 2011. “When she was diagnosed it was very hard for me as a single parent to cope,” recalls Allysa’s mother, Elizabeth.
Since the beginning of Allysa’s treatment, Elizabeth has done everything to make her daughter feel happy and comfortable, but found her real strength came from seeing what a fighter her little girl was. “She went through her treatments like a champ and showed strength that trickled down to me as her mother.” Elizabeth used it as energy toward educating herself and her daughter about the disease.
Along the way, the NCCS helped Elizabeth with gas money to get Allysa to treatment and doctor’s appointments as well as providing her with information on dealing with Allysa’s cancer. “I was very grateful for the help,” Elizabeth said.
Allysa is happy to see her hair starting to grow back. She is one step closer to becoming cancer free!
