Meet Sophia – Leukemia Warrior
"We will forever be grateful for everything you have helped our family with. God Bless You!"
Sophia was a typical healthy 3 1/2 year old who enjoyed running and playing when her mother noticed some bruising on her legs. Being the active toddler Sophia was, her mother, Guadalupe, thought they were the normal bumps and bruises from playing outside or falling off her bike. But, when they failed to clear up, Guadalupe took her to the doctor. “Most Hispanics enjoy the celebrations and festivities associated with Cinco de Mayo but for me that day will forever be marked as the worst day of my life. It is the day that my daughter was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia,” said Guadalupe.
Sophia began treatment immediately and even though the past six months have been challenging for her family, the NCCS was there to help with mileage expenses and meal costs when they’re away from home. “Through the help of organizations like NCCS we are getting by in these difficult times… we will forever be grateful for everything you have helped our family with. God Bless You!
