“Our family is so grateful for all the love and support we’ve received during this difficult time. It’s also comforting to know that we’re not alone on this journey, as cancer affects so many families daily.”

Nora and her brother Nolan

In September of 2024, Kyle and Kayla’s world was turned upside down when their 20-month-old daughter, Nora, was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. When they heard the news, Nora’s mother immediately made the three-hour drive from their home to the children’s hospital so Nora could begin chemotherapy, while Kyle stayed behind with their three-year-old son, Nolan. The diagnosis was overwhelming, but the family was grateful that both sets of grandparents were able to fly in to surround them with love and support during those first difficult days.

Nora endured countless labs, a spinal tap, and rounds of chemotherapy to rid her body of cancer. She also received blinatumomab, an immunotherapy treatment her little body responded to surprisingly well. Though she struggled with low counts, a weakened immune system, and loss of energy and appetite at the start, each passing week brought small victories. Her appetite returned, her energy grew, and her joyful spirit began to shine again.

The diagnosis was not easy for Nolan either. He missed family outings to favorite places like the zoo and aquarium, since Nora’s weakened immune system made crowded spaces too risky. Yet, despite the restrictions and challenges, Nora’s smile rarely faded. She loved playing with her brother in the backyard, reminding her parents daily of her resilience. Kyle reflected, “Just looking at Nora, you would have no idea what she’s going through.”

Nora’s treatments have been remarkably successful, and in February of 2025, she entered remission! While this is the news every parent of a child with cancer wants to hear, her journey is far from over. She will continue with maintenance therapy to keep the cancer from returning. While the road ahead can feel daunting, Kyle and Kayla are determined to take each day as it comes, focusing on hope and the strength of their daughter.

Through it all, The National Children’s Cancer Society (NCCS) has been by their side. The Transportation Assistance Fund has helped cover the family’s weekly trips to the hospital, and the Emergency Assistance Fund provided critical support for groceries while they were relocated during Nora’s treatment. This assistance has been nothing short of a lifeline, easing the family’s burdens so they can focus on Nora’s healing.

Kyle shared, “Our family is so grateful for all the love and support we’ve received during this difficult time. It’s also comforting to know that we’re not alone on this journey, as cancer affects so many families daily. We’re thankful for all the nurses, doctors, and hospital staff who have been at our side throughout this whole process. Please pray for our little warrior, Nora, and all the sick children as they continue their battle to beat cancer.”

Nora is proof that the strongest warriors often come in the smallest packages. Her courage, resilience, and radiant smile continue to inspire everyone around her, reminding us all of the incredible strength children carry, even in the face of cancer.
