Meet Brandon – Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia Warrior
"Hearing your seven year-old has cancer has got to be the hardest words for any parents to hear," - Brandon's mom
After an enlarged spleen and extremely high white blood cell counts were detected, seven year-old Brandon was diagnosed with chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML) a rare form of cancer in children. He immediately underwent an emergency splenectomy followed by bone marrow and biopsy tests. Understandably, his parents were devastated by the news – they had barely recovered from losing their 11 year old daughter in a tragic car accident a few years before. “Hearing your seven year-old has cancer has got to be the hardest words for any parents to hear,” said his mom. It is a gift to have organizations like The National Children’s Cancer Society step in and help with the variety of needs that families face. We personally have benefitted from financial assistance with gas money. We are so very appreciative for the help NCCS has given us.“
